Need a hand with Cubby Notch? Start with the quick guide and FAQ below. If you're still stuck, email and we'll help.

Quick start

  1. Drag a file, some text, or an image up to the notch — it expands and stashes the item there.
  2. Hover or drag toward the notch to expand the tray; it tucks away when you move on.
  3. Drag an item back out, into any app, Finder, or a message, when you need it.
  4. Turn on Recent Clips in settings to keep a local history of copied text and images.

System requirements

  • macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later
  • Any Mac — a notch is optional; notch-less Macs get a floating bar
  • No internet connection required to use the app

Frequently asked

My Mac doesn't have a notch. Can I still use it?

Yes. On displays without a notch, Cubby Notch shows a movable floating bar at the top of the screen. ⌘-drag it to reposition.

Is my data private?

Completely. Everything stays on your Mac — no account, no cloud, no sync, and nothing is uploaded. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Does it read my clipboard?

Only when you turn on Recent Clips, and only on your Mac. You can auto-clear clips after 1, 8, or 24 hours, or turn clipboard history off entirely.

Do my stashed items survive a restart?

They can. You can keep staged items across restarts, or clear them whenever you like.

Does it work across multiple displays?

Yes. Show the tray on all displays, on the main display only, or follow the system setting.

Is there a subscription?

No. Cubby Notch is a one-time purchase. Buy it once, keep it.

What languages are supported?

Cubby Notch is available in 12 languages.

Troubleshooting

The tray isn't showing up

Check your display settings (all displays / main only / follow system) in Cubby Notch settings, and make sure the app is running. Launch at login keeps it ready after a reboot.

Recent Clips isn't capturing

Make sure clipboard history is turned on in settings. With it off, Cubby Notch never reads the clipboard.
